The Story

It’s official; the Chicago Cubs have snatched up first baseman, Carlos Pena with a one-year deal set to earn him $10 million in 2011.

Formerly a Tampa Bay Ray, he averaged 36 home runs and 102 RBIs in four seasons of ball. Pena was not the only player let go from Tampa, says a report. As a lefty, Pena will be providing the left handed bat the Cubs have been looking for, and it may be his chance to regain some of his former glory.

Pena had an off year in 2010, with 84 RBIs and his batting average falling to .196, which are low compared to his numbers in 2009 (chicagobreakingsports.com).

Annie’s Spin:

Okay, it’s true; I don’t know much about sports. But I do know this: no job continues to pay you well when you perform poorly.

Apparently not true in the world of professional sports?

What the hell. I got fired from a job at a liquor store because I couldn’t work on Mondays.

Parting thought: He has his eyes CLOSED while swinging the bat!!!
